About Cold Lake Provincial Park

Cold Lake Provincial Park is located in northeastern Alberta, bordering the southern shore of Cold Lake, a large glacial lake known for its clear waters and excellent fishing opportunities. The park covers primarily boreal forest terrain featuring mixed stands of spruce, pine, and poplar trees, interspersed with wetlands and lakeshore habitat. Established in 1977, Cold Lake Provincial Park preserves an important natural landscape for wildlife such as moose, black bear, loons, and numerous migratory birds. Its geography includes rolling forested hills transitioning into the sandy beaches and wetlands along Cold Lake’s southern shore. The park’s aquatic environment supports abundant fish species including walleye, northern pike, and perch, fostering a popular fishing destination. Recreational offerings include boat launches, hiking and mountain biking trails, and campgrounds with lakeside views. During winter, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing are popular activities. The park’s proximity to the city of Cold Lake makes it accessible for day trips and extended stays, attracting anglers, campers, birdwatchers, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
